January & February 2008

2008 started out at lightning speed for us. It just flew by and took us by surprise when these 2 months were over.

In January Tyler went back to school after winter break and Alana turned 35. Alana's good friend Gillian also had a birthday so we hired a babysitter to watch Tyler and Gillian's son Harrison and went out to have an adult birthday dinner at Mattei's Tavern in Los Olivos. Then on Alana's actual birthday we went out to dinner again and celebrated with a little birthday cake and candles. Tyler was very generous and actually allowed Alana to blow out her own candles.

In February we decided to skip the Chinese New Year parade in San Francisco and had a small family celebration here in town. Tyler shared some Chinese goodies with his class at school and they made some Chinese paper lanterns at craft time to celebrate the holiday. There was also a small Chinese New Year festival at the Santa Barbara Museum of Art that weekend and afterwards we went out for Chinese food with Gillian, Luis and Harrison. For Valentines Day Gillian graciously offered to watch Tyler while we went out for a romantic dinner at our favorite French restaurant in Solvang. Also in February we sadly said good bye to our good friends the Staudes as they moved to Illinois near Chicago. We miss them a lot! Hopefully we'll be able to visit them in the future, we'll just have to wait until it thaws out a little bit.
